Enter a weight above 0, such as 2 or 30.
Enter an average on the same scale as the grades.
A weighted average multiplies each grade by its weight, adds them up and divides by the total weight: 12 with a weight of 1 and 15 with a weight of 2 average (12 + 30) ÷ 3 = 14.
The grade needed on the next one is what brings the total to the average you want once its weight is added: (average × total weight with it − the weighted grades so far) ÷ its weight. For a final exam worth 30 % of the course, give your grades so far a total weight of 70 and the exam 30. Letter grades follow the most common US scale, A from 93 %, A− from 90; schools set their own.
